With great determination, Elaine Guitar decided to be an artist at the age of eight. Self-taught, her desire and admiration for nature and wildlife became her motivation to spend countless hours developing her skills.

Each painting begins with charcoal preliminary sketches, drawing from life whenever possible. The preliminary sketch is transferred to her substrate of canvas, aluminum or board. A tonal study is applied to the painting surface in black and white, browns or complimentary colours. This establishes a wonderful three-dimensional effect. Her techniques require her to spend 100-200 hours on major pieces of artwork.

“My desire is to have the viewer absorbed into the painting through detail, composition, texture and colour. I hope to heighten the sense and appreciation for all life”.

With over 50 years of experience in the arts, Elaine has exhibited in many solo and group shows. She has won numerous awards for her studio work and en plein air paintings, her favourites being the People’s Choice awards.
